Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan's "crazy project" Canal Istanbul, announced during his prime minister period, is ready to roll. The Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure has announced the construction schedule for the mega project.

60 percent of the 75 Billion Lira cost Canal Istanbul project is expected to be completed by 2023. According to this; By 2023, 60 percent of the Canal Istanbul project will be completed.

The project is expected to be completed with a total cost of 75 billion pounds and until the year 2023 45 billion pounds will be spent. The project will open an artificial waterway between the Black Sea and the Marmara Sea.

Length, width, depth

The canal will be 40 kilometers length, 150 meters width and 25 meters depth. With the completion of the project, two new peninsulas and a new island will be formed in Istanbul. The new residential area to be built around the Canal Istanbul will cover 453 million square meters.

The ministry's goal in 2023 is 60 percent of the project to be completed

According to the plan detailing the part of the project until 2023, the first year of the project will be spent with preparation; 10 percent in the 2nd year, 20 percent in the 3rd year, 30 percent in the 4th year and 60 percent in the 5th year will be completed. Depending on the previous statements the completion of the construction of the Canal Istanbul project at the Republic's 100th anniversary was at 2023 but now 60 percent of the completion of the construction by 2023 will be the target of the ministry.

Europe is disturbed

The fact that the Canal Istanbul project rivals Suez and the Panama Canal also raises concerns in Europe.
